IGNITE '09

For many years, JJ DuBose and Kerry Hollis had individual dreams of pulling together an outdoor Christian Music event in Pell City, Alabama. Both of them, being musicians themselves, had previous experiences at other outdoor music events and realized the power and enjoyment that can come from them and how effective they can be as a ministry tool. Kerry and JJ had made many individual attempts in previous years to get efforts going around an outdoor Christian event but nothing ever came to fruition.

After many years of dreaming on their own, God finally put them together on the contemporary worship team at First Baptist Church in Pell City. Sharing the same ambition, they finally put their heads together and in April of 2008 began the planning of that first event. In their first official meeting, still searching for a name, their good friend, Kenny Martin, suggested a name for the event that now has become IGNITE. With JJ being the primary lead, they formed their core team and approached their home church about sponsoring this evangelistic outreach. The church pastor, Dr. John Thweatt, was very open to the idea. First Baptist Church of Pell City, AL graciously offered to financially sponsor the event and thus the adventure began. August 16th, 2008 marked the date of the first IGNITE event. WIth approximately 3000 in attendance and the participation of 17 area churches, IGNITE '08 was a huge success and surpassed all expectations.

ABOUT

IGNITE '08 is an non-denominational outdoor Christian music festival/ministry event that has multiple purposes.

    * to glorify God and his Son, Jesus Christ.

    * to host an evangelistic outreach that will attract seekers and non-believers and provide a venue to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

    * to facilitate the fellowship of Christians from all over the city and county, and to bring them together into one point of focused worship of our Creator and Savior.
